Using BOOM Cards for your Guided Reading Groups

Over the years,  I have used my absolute FAVORITE product that I created in my daily guided reading instruction.  That product is The Ultimate Guided Reading Toolkit.  You can read more about it HERE.

BOOM cards are a fun way to get your students engaged in your Guided Reading Lessons! The cards can be completed in your small group before or after reading book. This digital activity is perfect for kindergarten, first grade, or second grade teachers.

Now, with the urgent need of Remote Learning, I've started creating activities that would work similarly to the printable version of The Ultimate Guided Reading Toolkit, but it is digital- using BOOM Decks.

I've just begun this process, and it's going to take a lot of time and creativity to do, but it will get done!

I'm using the BOOM Decks for Word Work activities right now, and I plan to make sets geared toward other skills such as reading strategies and comprehension skills.  Check out the BOOM Decks that I've finished so far!

To use these decks for Guided Reading, I would suggest you assign your decks to the students in your group first.  When they come to you either virtually or in the classroom, they will work through some of the BOOM Cards with you.  Then, they can finish their deck during center time later.

You would then continue on with your Guided Reading Lesson using books from your classroom or online.  These BOOM Decks do not contain books.

Also, the decks can be used outside of a Guided Reading Lesson.  They could be used as a review, used on a SmartBoard as a whole group lesson, or assigned to your students as a lesson on whatever skill you are working on.
