Are you ready to set up a guided reading area in your classroom? Having an organized area will help you to run your groups in a more efficient way! I'm so excited to share with you some of my guided reading organization tips!

Guided Reading Organization

Getting your guided reading area organized will help you save time when planning your lessons and you will be able to get the most out of your time with each group!

Set up Guided Reading Zones

Have you seen The Home Edit on television or on IG? I've been obsessed lately with watching how they organize areas! They are genius! So, I tried to do the same with my Guided Reading Area. I have a few different zones- Guided Reading Books, Guided Reading Binders/Lesson Plans, Guided Reading Supplies, Guided Reading Bins (one for each group).

Set up Guided Reading Binder

My guided reading binder is very precious to me! It has everything I need to plan my guided reading lessons! I try to have no more than 5 groups, but it really depends on how many students I have each year and what their reading levels are. I have a FREE Guided Reading Binder you can check out HERE! Or, if you are looking for an editable binder with more options, you can check out my Editable Guided Reading Binder.

Set up Guided Reading Groups

I use Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessments to help me guide my grouping of my students. I have a short YouTube video you can check out to see exactly how I set up my groups. Once I have my groups, I can plan each one and put all of the materials I need into their group bin. Then, I have everything in one place- easy peasy!

Set up Guided Reading Materials

I like to keep a group set (6) of materials that we use often. Included are whiteboards, dry-erase markers, letter magnets, pencils, etc.

Set up Guided Reading Books

Getting a book collection can be expensive and difficult. I personally LOVE the black/white Homework books from Fountas and Pinnell's Leveled Literacy Intervention. These books are in black and white (which is the only thing I don't love) but they are reasonably priced and have great stories! I also have many books from Pioneer Valley. If you are looking for some other options, that are cost-effective, there are some great books on TPT. You can check them out here:
